The main concerns are heat retention (synthetic turf can run 20 to 40 degrees hotter than natural grass in direct sun), environmental impact (it does not support soil biology or pollinators), and wear over time (lower-quality products can flatten, fade, or develop odour over five to eight years). These are real considerations. We address them by recommending synthetic turf only where it genuinely fits, specifying premium products with UV-resistant fibres, and designing proper drainage to prevent odour. We will always tell you when natural sod is the better choice for your property.
Sod gives you an instant lawn: green, established, and usable within weeks. Seed costs less up front but takes two to three months to fully establish, is vulnerable to washout and weeds during germination, and needs the kind of precise, consistent watering that is hard to manage without an irrigation system. For the Georgian Bay corridor's compressed May-to-October growing season, sod is almost always the better investment, because by the time seed fully establishes, you have lost a big part of the usable season.
